Petra’s win in 36 minutes was the quickest win by anyone  at Wimbledon since 2004
The defending Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova picked up where she left off last year with a blistering 6-1, 6-0 victory over world No108 Kiki Bertens, of the Netherlands, that will remind everyone the Czech will not be giving up her title easily.
On a picture-perfect day, with temperatures around 30C , Kvitova had to bea bit  nervous as she “opened” the women’s event in the traditional slot reserved for the holder, especially after pulling out of the Eastbourne warmup event because of a virus.
But in front of a packed crowd on Centre Court, including her parents, Kvitova played with the freedom of a reigning champion as she raced to victory in 36 minutes, dropping one point on serve in the match.
Petra Kvitova says hello from Wimbledon while her and her team wear their Ritmo timepieces.
Read what Petra has to say about Wimbledon, “There are so many things that I love about Wimbledon. I watched it on TV when I was young and when I was playing just for fun, and at that time I didn’t imagine that I would ever have the opportunity to step on to the grass and actually win the trophy. I never even dreamed about that. Of course, it’s my favourite tournament. I love playing on grass, but on top of that it’s all the history. I can feel that history every time I play there. And playing in white is great – I’m pleased that the tournament has kept that tradition.”
Petra’s advice for a fan attending Wimbledon for the first time: “I know that they talk about the second Monday of the tournament – that’s when all the singles players left in the draws are going to be playing – so that’s probably the best day to go if you want to see the best players. I know that it’s not easy to get tickets for the Show Courts, but it’s great to be on the outside courts, as you can see some of the other players, including the juniors and doubles. There’s a mix of everything on the outside courts.”
Brand Ambassador Petra Kvitova is committed to defend her Connecticut Open title this August in New Haven.
Tournament director Anne Worcester announced Wednesday that Petra Kvitova, ranked No. 2 in the world, will be part of the 2015 Connecticut Open field. The tournament will be held Aug. 21-29 at the Connecticut Tennis Center.
Kvitova has won at New Haven two of the past three years. Last year, she rolled through the tournament by winning each match in straight sets.
“I’m so happy to be going back to the Connecticut Open this summer,” Kvitova said in a statement. “As a two-time champion in New Haven, it is a really special tournament for me. I have great memories from playing there and hope to have another good run this year. It is the perfect place for us to prepare for the U.S. Open and also for the fans to get close to the action before the last Grand Slam of the year.”
Fresh off a successful clay court season, Czech tennis star Petra Kvitova has returned to the world #2 spot on the latest WTA rankings, published today by the WTA Tour. This is Petra’s 2nd stint as world #2, having held the position for 15 weeks back in October 2011 after capturing the WTA Year-end Championships that year. Petra, the defending and two-time Wimbledon Champion (2011, 2014), is set to make her grass court debut in Eastbourne at the AEGON International during the week of June 22nd, in preparation for her return to Wimbledon on her favorite surface, grass.
The start of the 2015 season has been one of Petra’s most successful to date, capturing the Sydney International title in January, the Mutua Madrid Open in May, and having been the only player to have defeated Serena Williams in 2015.
